Idiocracy (2006) … once a comedy, now a documentary

Opinion
The year is 2006, a comedy movie came out that was so dumb it was funny. That movie was Idiocracy. Little did I know the plot of that movie that was set 500 years into the future something similar would happen in just ten years (2016)! The movie had become a documentary of the political climate of the United States of America when a former pro-wrestler (Trump) became president.
There are many similarities of the world created by Mike Judge with the world of 2022. Trash building up everywhere is similar to the climate activists claiming climate is going to kill us all. As stated before a pro wrestler became president. The level of entertainment from the movie, “Ow My Balls” is similar to many of the things you would see on most social media sites like Twitter, TikTok, OnlyFans, Facebook, Instagram, etc.. The man on the street interviews where people can not answer even simple questions about the world around them like “Can you name a US state that boarders Canada?” The answer from the interviewee was “Isn’t Canada a state.” With answers like that it reminds me of when all the characters in the movie keep saying “Brawndo, its got electrolights,” is the same as an NPC (non playable character) in most video games.
How do we as a society come back sliding into the level of discourse and lack of knowledge that the movie Idiocracy portrays as the future of the human race? I would initially recommend giving more reverence to “experts,” just that type of thinking has not worked out well in the world since 2020 and the Covid-19 Pandemic. Authority was given to a bunch of “scientists” with models that were all wrong at every step of the way. The current “Leaders” of countries put everyone into authoritarian lockdown destroying more lives than disease was killing. Doing more harm by forcing individuals to do things they did not want to do violated the agreement that if a leader does something good the population follows or the leader is removed. With that violation the “Leaders” can not be trusted. So if experts and leaders are out, what is the next step to bring society back into relative stability?
The answer is “I do not know.”
So with that Idiocracy was a great cult classic of a film that is well worth the watch. so remember “Welcome to Cosco, I love you.”
